Doctorate Title: How do paramedics make diagnostic decisions?

Doctorate Description: Paramedics make clinical decisions in the face of significant ambiguity. There is growing research into paramedic diagnostic accuracy in areas such as stroke, sepsis and respiratory disease. However, there no research into how paramedics make these decisions, how errors can occur and how to improve decision quality. This thesis will use experiments and simulation to explore the psychological processes underlying paramedic decision making.
