Doctorate Title: Epidemiology and outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest of non-cardiac aetiologies.

Doctorate Description: Implantable cardioverter defibrillator placement for at risk population and medication therapy for life-threating arrhythmias have been linked to a reduction in the incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). In addition, community engagement in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation have been associated with improved survival. However, the benefit of these prevention and treatment interventions was seen in OHCA population whose arrest are of presumed cardiac aetiology. Although population with non-cardiac aetiologies account for a significant proportion of OHCA and are of growing concern, this population are relatively less often described. Understanding the epidemiology and outcomes of OHCA of non-cardiac aetiologies is important for informing research and public health interventions.
