Doctorate Title: Identifying an evidence-based model of therapy for the pre-hospital emergency management of supraventricular tachycardia.

Doctorate Description: This thesis examined the identification, development and implementation of an evidence-based model of therapy for the pre-hospital management of the abnormal heart rhythm supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) in Australia. Having identified that existing pre-hospital practice varied greatly across Australian States, subsequent studies quantified appropriate elements of therapy such as the optimum performance of a vagal manoeuvre (the simplest non-invasive therapy), the most appropriate and safe pre-hospital drug for SVT management, and produced the first published pre-hospital effectiveness study for SVT management in Australia. The resultant Clinical Practice Guideline now forms the basis for pre-hospital management of SVT in Victoria and Tasmania.
