Doctorate Title: Quantifying the risk of aerosol generating events to healthcare workers in a COVID-19 era; a study of manual ventilation and suctioning during cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and cough in an ambulance setting.

Doctorate Description: The doctorate will take a multi-methods approach in researching aerosol generation during suctioning and manual ventilation as part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in two clinical setting; pre-hospital and in-hospital. The pre-hospital setting will involve observational studies of working resuscitation attempts and the in-hospital setting will be based in an ITU department, carrying out the procedures on recently deceased patients in a controlled environment.

Cough will also be investigated as a lab-based experiment, simulating the clinical environment of an ambulance to ascertain exposure to aerosols generated by a cough simulator at different positions of the ambulance.
