Doctorate Title: Preparing for Practice: Leveraging Paramedics’ Experiences Providing Palliative Care.

Doctorate Description: Paramedicine in Canada is evolving from roots in public safety (focused on rapid emergency response and transport) to a health profession focused on meeting the needs of patients (often urgent vs emergent and may not require transport). One rapidly expanding context where paramedics are providing treatment and referral is in supporting patients with palliative care needs. This project will describe and contextualize the role of paramedics in palliative care, including their relationship to other healthcare professionals, patients, families, and caregivers. Learnings from this work may inform care for other populations with needs better served through collaboration with interprofessional teams in the community.
