Doctorate Title: Paramedic Education: The role of educational theory in the future development of Paramedicine as a profession.

Doctorate Description: Given the evolution of Paramedicine, and by extension, its educational requirements, it is timely to enquire whether the current educational framework, including underpinning theory and processes, is sufficient to develop the level of education required for a profession. The purpose of this study is to investigate the current state of Paramedicine education and evaluate whether it is fit-for-purpose, and to recommend pedagogical enhancements that support the consolidation of Paramedicine as a profession. In order to achieve these outcomes it is intended that a model be developed that provides clarity to the profession by constructing a framework that describes the interaction between the various educational outcomes/domains/capabilities required for the profession of Paramedicine. This framework can then be used to guide the choice and use of educational pedagogies and methods best suited to deliver the required graduate learning outcomes for this emerging profession. When addressing these questions a number of broader concepts must be addressed to frame the issues and give context to the investigation.
1. The extent to which Paramedicine qualifies for consideration as a professional discipline
2. If we accept Paramedicine is a profession, then the extent to which Paramedic educational requirements are distinct from other areas of clinical education
3. If there is, then what might be a proposed educational framework that can best deliver required graduate outcomes?
