Doctorate Title: Does Direct Helicopter Retrieval Improve Survival for Severely Injured Trauma Patients from Rural Locations?
Doctorate Description: The objective of this research is to determine whether helicopter direct retrieval from an incident scene to a level 1 trauma centre improves survival in severely injured trauma patients in rural locations 50-250 km of Perth, compared to indirect retrieval whereby patients are transferred to a secondary hospital prior to transfer to a level 1 trauma centre. Research data has been sourced from all WA Trauma Registries (n=1374) and from the National Coronial Information system (NCIS) (n=56) for the 10 year study period.
