Doctorate Title: Pre-hospital care and the implementation of Advanced Paramedic Practitioners in the community: Mapping an effective model.
Doctorate Description: This study will support service improvement by examining the new Advanced Paramedic Practitioners (APP) role introduced by Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST).
The study aims to evaluate the Advanced Paramedic Practitioners (APP) role and map the parameters of an effective model. The APP role is an innovative approach to developing pre-hospital care in a community setting. The study provides an in-depth review of the evidence-base regarding advanced clinical practice and the emergence of the APP role as a basis to develop a greater understanding of its impact. The study aims to conduct an empirical investigation to explore the APP role in two pilot case sites within Wales. The detailed objectives are:
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the APP role and its impact on patient care, system efficiency, and workforce dynamics to inform practical improvements.
• Explore the mechanisms and contextual factors that underpin the effectiveness and sustainability of the APP role to guide actionable insights for service refinement.
• Identify opportunities, barriers, and challenges for the further development, integration, and optimization of the APP role to support ongoing service improvement and workforce planning.
